Avlabari station opened in 1967. It sits on the left bank of the Kura, opposite the Metekhi cliff. Nearby are one of Tbilisi's most iconic landmarks — the Holy Trinity Cathedral (Tsminda Sameba) — a riverside park, and historic quarters. The atmosphere is quiet and contemplative, with fewer tourists than in Old Tbilisi.
Historic private houses and small restored buildings. New builds are scarce. Prices are mid-range — below the neighbouring tourist zone of Old Tbilisi, but centrally located.
Line 1 metro. Journey to Rustaveli is about 10 minutes. Buses along the Kura embankment lead to Old Tbilisi and the centre. The terrain is hilly in parts.
