01Infrastructure
Kesklinn is home to Viru Keskus and Ülemiste shopping centres, the major banks, countless restaurants and cafés, the Balti jaam Market, the leading theatres, the Estonian History Museum, and the KUMU Art Museum. Day-to-day errands can be handled entirely on foot.
02Transport
All major tram lines (1, 2, 3, 4) pass through Kesklinn, along with numerous bus routes and Baltic Station (Balti jaam), which serves commuter trains and international coaches. Tallinn Airport is 4 km away — reachable non-stop on tram line 4.
03Housing and prices
The housing stock is varied: restored pre-war buildings, Soviet-era brick blocks, and modern developments in the Rotermann and Sadama quarters. The district consistently ranks among Tallinn's three most expensive areas, with rental rates and sale prices well above the city average.
04Schools and kindergartens
Kesklinn is home to Gustav Adolf Gymnasium — one of Estonia's leading secondary schools — as well as Tallinn University, Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), and several private kindergartens. The educational environment is among the best in the country.
05Safety and atmosphere
Tallinn's city centre is well patrolled and well lit. The tourist quarters remain lively late into the evening, creating a safe urban atmosphere; street crime is low by European standards.
