01Infrastructure
Wenceslas Square is the main commercial artery, with department stores, cinemas, hotels, and restaurants. The district is home to the National Theatre, National Museum, major banks, and office buildings. Everyday shops and pharmacies are on every corner.
02Transport
Three metro lines: A and B intersect at Můstek, line C at Muzeum and I. P. Pavlova. Dozens of tram and bus routes cover the whole of Nové Město. The central railway station (Praha hlavní nádraží) is on the eastern edge of the district.
03Housing and prices
A mix of historic apartment buildings, inter-war structures, and some new developments. Housing here is expensive — the second-priciest band after Old Town. Some apartments are actively let to tourists on a short-stay basis.
04Schools and kindergartens
Several Prague grammar schools and private schools are nearby, as well as Charles University (Faculty of Arts) on Jan Palach Square. There are enough private kindergartens within walking distance.
05Safety and atmosphere
The district is lively and well lit. The main concern is pickpockets at tourist spots and near the railway station. The adjacent residential blocks are quieter than the promenading streets.
