Poruba is the largest residential district of Ostrava, located in the west of the city and renowned for its Socialist Realist architecture of the 1950s and its wide, tree-lined boulevards; it is also home to the main VŠB — Technical University campus.

Wide chestnut-lined boulevards, parks, and gardens give Poruba its distinctive character. Several large supermarkets (Albert, Kaufland), the Avion Shopping Park in neighbouring Zábřeh, clinics, sports complexes, and a cultural centre are all within the district.
Trams 4, 7, 8, and 9 run directly from Poruba to the Ostrava city centre in 25–30 minutes. A bus line to Leoš Janáček Airport. Cycle paths along the boulevards are a popular commuter route for VŠB students.
Characteristic five-storey Socialist Realist buildings from the 1950s–1960s with high ceilings and solid brickwork, partly renovated.
