Dr. E. Beneše Square with the town hall, banks, and cafés is the hub of city life. Nisa shopping centre with a cinema and shops. F. X. Šalda Theatre — Liberec's main cultural stage. Pharmacies, clinics, and a post office within walking distance.
02Transport
Trams (5 city lines) and trolleybuses radiate from the centre to all parts of the city. The main railway station Liberec offers express trains to Prague in approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Buses to the Jizerské hory ski resorts in 30–40 minutes.
03Housing and prices
Historic late-19th and early-20th century development: German architecture with distinctive bay windows and mouldings. Purchase prices from 50,000 to 80,000 CZK per sq m; one-bedroom rents 9,000–14,000 CZK per month — more affordable than Prague and Brno.
04Schools and kindergartens
Technical University of Liberec (TUL) with several faculties in the centre. Grammar schools, language schools, and music studios. International school for expat families in Liberec.
05Safety and atmosphere
A lively and lit centre with a good police presence. Low street crime; pickpocketing during the tourist season is the standard risk. The atmosphere is calm; it is a small city.
