01Infrastructure
The centre of Şəki has markets, cafés, restaurants and hotels geared towards tourists. Everyday infrastructure includes shops, banks, polyclinics and city parks. The Palace of the Shaki Khans — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — is in the historic centre.
02Transport
Şəki is linked to Baku by trains (about 6 hours) and buses (about 4–5 hours). The road is scenic, running through the Alazani Valley. Within the city, minibuses and taxis are used. There is no metro.
03Housing and prices
The housing stock includes traditional Azerbaijani houses, Soviet-era apartment buildings and a small number of modern structures. The housing market is modest, but prices are among the most affordable in the country.
04Schools and kindergartens
The city has state schools, gymnasiums, technical colleges and Shaki State University. The city has long educational traditions.
05Safety and atmosphere
Şəki is a quiet and safe city with a rich history. The tourist flow in season brings liveliness to the centre, but the atmosphere remains calm and friendly.
